The Falcon 8X is Dassault's flagship trijet — a stretched, longer-legged development of the 7X with a 6,450 NM reach that pairs city pairs like Johannesburg–London or Dubai–New York non-stop. The third engine is not nostalgia: it buys dispatch flexibility on hot-and-high and remote routes, and the wing gives the 8X approach speeds and short-field manners no other aircraft in the class can match.
The cabin runs to just under 43 feet in three lounges, with around thirty layout permutations offered from the factory — one reason no two 8X interiors read alike.
The aircraft
Dassault revealed the Falcon 8X at EBACE in May 2014, its answer to a range race the Gulfstream G650 had started: customers wanted the 7X's efficiency and field performance carried further. Rather than a clean sheet, Dassault stretched the 7X fuselage by roughly three and a half feet, reworked the wing, added fuel and fitted uprated PW307D engines — a deliberate bet that a proven fly-by-wire airframe, extended, would beat an all-new one to market.
The bet paid off quickly. The first 8X flew on 6 February 2015, EASA and FAA certification followed in June 2016 — barely sixteen months after first flight, an unusually short campaign that the commonality with the 7X made possible — and the first customer delivery came that October. Green airframes are built at Mérignac in France, with most completions done at Dassault's Little Rock facility in the United States.
The 8X took over as Dassault's flagship on entry into service and gave the marque its longest cabin to date, a title it holds until the 10X arrives. Production continues at a measured rate, and the worldwide fleet has grown steadily to somewhere in the low hundreds — small next to the Gulfstream and Global fleets, which is partly why well-kept examples are scarce on the used market at any given moment.

The broker’s view
The 8X entered service in 2016, so the used fleet is young, low-hours and almost always on engine and airframe programmes. Values hold firmly for well-specified, one-owner examples with FalconCare-style coverage; European and Middle Eastern registrations dominate the supply.
For African operators the trijet configuration and runway performance genuinely matter — the 8X gets out of strips a Gulfstream of equal range will not attempt at weight.
The family
The shorter trijet the 8X grew out of, still in production. Around 4,750 NM of range for materially less money — the sensible cross-shop if 6,000-plus NM is more range than the mission actually needs.
The 8X's direct parent, in service from 2007. Same cross-section and fly-by-wire architecture with 5,950 NM of range; a used 7X delivers most of the 8X experience at a substantial discount, from a far deeper pool of airframes.
The stretch, from 2016: about three and a half feet more cabin, a revised wing, PW307D engines and 6,450 NM of range. Later examples increasingly carry the FalconEye head-up display and factory-fresh connectivity — worth seeking out.

Many examples carry FalconEye — the first head-up display to blend synthetic and enhanced vision, certified to lower approach minima — a genuine asset into poorly equipped or weather-limited airfields.
A third engine adds a maintenance line, but the PW307Ds are small and efficient — Dassault claims class-leading fuel burn, and operators broadly bear that out. In practice programme coverage and utilisation move the annual budget far more than the engine count does.
